1984 - More than just a theory by one single man?

Perhaps one did not need to be loved so much as to be understood. - George Orwell, 1984 This book really makes you question society, authority figures, and basically the entire system as a whole. I absolutely loved it! There is a lot to I would love to unpack in this book, but I would honestly end up writing an entire thesis if I was to mention everything that went through my mind as I read this masterpiece. Ironically, I randomly happened to go from reading 1984 to The Giver straight afterwards. I am not so sure that was the best idea for someone who might be slightly prone to conspiracy theories, but what's done is done. Having said this, there are a lot of parallels in the two books, and they both make you think outside the box and wonder if everything you knew to be true might just be a lie. Furthermore, it makes you wonder what the future might look like for the coming generations, whether or not there might in fact be some truth to his words, and how on earth Orwell came up...

Smooth like Butter, or just another attempted Grammy nomination?

BTS - the biggest boyband of our time, and arguably one of the biggest bands to ever walk the planet - released their new single Butter on May 21st. In fact, this song was released exactly 6 months after their last album Be with the title track Life goes on came out, and almost to the day 9 months previous to the release of their first fully English single, Dynamite. One of the main critiques of Dynamite has been that the song is too generic for BTS´ overall style and image, in addition to it possibly being released mainly due to the band´s expressed desire of receiving a Grammy nomination. Personally, I think that this single is somewhat generic, but the song in and of itself is not bad, the choreography definitely slaps, and the style and colours of the music video and the performances are just phenomenal! Why did I explain Dynamite to such an extent? Well, some of the critique towards the newly released single Butter has mainly contained arguments like how the song might just have b...

White Chrysanthemum - A message of hope or despair?

There are only two words that could perfectly summarize this book: magnificently thought-provoking! In the month of April I had the pleasure of reading the book «White Chrysanthemum». This book addresses important and relevant topics, including the heart breaking message of how the comfort women who came fourth with their stories in 1991 were received by the public – especially by Japan. The author spares us no details of the horrendous acts happening during WW2 to the so-called comfort women or «Lilac women» of South Korea. I would highly recommend reading this if you are interested in East Asian history and historical fiction, or if you are passionate about ending modern sex slavery. This book requires no previous knowledge of Korean traditions and culture, and the author explains the words that need a translation. White Chrysanthemum was published Mary Lynn Bracht in 2018, which makes the release about 27 years previous to the first comfort woman coming forth with her story....
